A cold-knife conization is performed:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When there is suspicion of adenocarcinoma.<\/li>\n<li>In cases of high-risk lesions that extend high into the cervical canal.<\/li>\n<li>If smears of the cervical canal reveal serious lesions that were not detected by the colposcopy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>How is the procedure performed?<\/h4>\n<p>The patient is admitted to the hospital. The procedure is done under general anesthesia. The cervix is cut with a scalpel and a cone-shaped part is removed, including the transformation zone and part of the cervical canal. Hemostasis is performed, and sutures are placed for the anatomical restoration of the trauma.<\/p>\n<h4>What are the procedure\u2019s risks?<\/h4>\n<p>The risks from a conization are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bleeding<\/li>\n<li>Inflammation<\/li>\n<li>Trauma to adjacent tissues and the vagina<\/li>\n<li>Fertility problems<\/li>\n<li>Stenosis of the cervical canal<\/li>\n<li>Increased chances of premature birth in future pregnancies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is it?
