Around 90% of genital warts are caused by HPV 6 and 11. In the rest of the cases other types are also detected (also high-risk, such as HPV 16).
More specifically, in patients with warts we also occasionally detect HPV 16, 18, 31, 33 and 35. There is usually a parallel infection with high-risk types of HPV, which means a future risk for precancerous lesions.
