Which types of HPV do vaccines protect you from?

Gardasil
The first Gardasil vaccine became available in 2006, and it protects against HPV 6, 11, 16 and 18. The production of this vaccine was based on the prevention of genital warts (which in 90% of the cases are caused by HPV 6 and 11) and the majority of cervical cancers (which in 70% of cases are caused by HPV 16 and 18).

Cervarix
Cervarix became available in 2007 with the goal of protecting against HPV 16 and 18. According to studies published later, it was proven that Cervarix provided partial coverage (due to cross protection) also from types 31, 33, and 45.

Gardasil 9
In December of 2014, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the USA approved the Gardasil 9 vaccine. Gardasil 9 covers against types 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58, offering clearly greater coverage compared to the previous vaccines.
