How can we explain genital warts in areas where there is no friction during sexual intercourse?

People with genital warts frequently get them in other areas, such as the pubis, groin, and elsewhere. The shaving or hair removal of these areas sometimes causes small abrasions, which offer HPV the opportunity to enter and infect the basal layer of the epithelium. Also, rubbing or scratching an area (such as e.g. the anus), with infected fingers-fingernails can cause new lesions to appear.
