
Usually, a Pap test showing suspect cells or a positive HPV test are followed by a colposcopy.
The doctor performing the colposcopy assesses whether to perform biopsies or remove a larger part of tissue (cone biopsy).
In order to reach a definite diagnosis, some or all of the following tests may be required:
- Pap test
- HPV test
- Colposcopy
- Histologic examination of biopsies or part of the cervix
- Histologic examination of a tissue sample from the cervical canal.
