People with warts frequently have lesions in other regions, such as the pubic region, groin and elsewhere. Sometimes shaving these areas or hair removal creates micro-abrasions which allow HPVs to penetrate and infect the basal layer of the epithelium. Also, friction of a region (such as the anus) with infected fingers/fingernails can be the cause of lesions (in this case without actual anal contact).
